***Author’s note: Day 13’s task was technically completed a little after 12:00 am on Day 14; which is why this particular post’s publishing date is listed as 10/26/12. 

I’ve decided to count down to the Georgia-Florida football game and an in-home spa day I have planned for my first Saturday off. I plugged in the start time and date of the college football game into a form on Timeanddate.com website. And now I’m watching the seconds tick off one by one towards the big game.

Day 12, Buy Local, Reduce Stress: Self.com’s 14 Days to a Happier, Healthier You!

Fail.

Day 12’s task  was not successfully completed today. I didn’t really need to buy anything  and I also had to work, which really cut into my shopping time. So unless you count buying gas from Kroger’s gas station and fast food from McDonald’s as “helping the local economy,” I really did fail at this task.

(By “local economy” I think Self magazine was referring to small, local businesses, not large franchises. )

Day 11, Coffee (or YouTubes) with Friends: Self.com’s 14 Days to a Happier, Healthier You!

Day 11’s task is much harder than it looks. Especially when you’re working and out of school and most of your friends are either still in school or working full-time.

And, for me Day 11 fell on a weekday. I know.

Day 10, Just Smile: Self.com’s 14 Days to a Happier, Healthier You!

I smiled quite a bit today. None of those weirdly intense big grins of course, but just small smiles. Small smiles that had a big impact on me today.

I think the key to today’s task isn’t just to smile randomly. It’s to smile in spite of bad situations. That’s when you’ll notice a significant and relatively rapid change in your mood.
